Tall Saw-sedge

A large sedge forming a thick cane-like tussock that grows to 2.5 metres tall with long golden brown flowers that become dark brown and produce small red seeds. It is grows best in moist to wet soil beside streams and swamps in dappled to semi shade. A very tough plant that will tolerate permanent inundation and drought. It can be used as a screen plant or backdrop for other foliage plants and is a food source for caterpillars. The leaves of this plant are sharp so care needs to be taken when handling and it is best kept away from pedestrian traffic.
